[ It's hard not to think anything of it when he has a wheezing man before him. ]
As safe as it could be. [ But his attention soon goes back to his staff, now being taken up into the tree by the vines that ensnared him in the first place. There is a scowl that crosses his face as he lets out an aggravated sigh. ]
Though now I'm left with the problem of having to retrieve my staff. Just my luck.
I'll take it as a verbal contract not to take it poorly when they do.
[ But, it seems the jokes were over when he see's that smile turn into something else. He looks inquisitive, canting his head as she says that. Well, only one way to find out. ]
Are dragons different from where you're from? I mean, it sounds like we have similar types to the ones you have. Ice, lightning, fire would be among the types I've encountered.
Still, it's quite the feat to be able to kill one. Sounds like you and your friends are fairly powerful people.
[ Even here, on a new world, the Conclave's shadow can cast a pall over matters, and Vex's flat look twists into a grimace. It is a simple enough question, innocently asked. She has no reason not to explain, beyond her general dislike for the subjects at hand. ]
Certain colours have affinities for different elements, but I'm uncertain how much else is alike. We have both dragons of the chromatic and the metallic variety, and I assure you, the former are the truly evil ones. No victory is ever assured against a dragon, and we've come close to death against them more times than I'd like to think.
[for a moment, the sight of Allura's tower crumbling, of the green dragon's maw spilling forth poisons that slew hundreds in moments. Of the damage done by the black dragon in more territory than one. Sen, behind her, can likely feel the shudder run through her frame]
We've tried to become powerful. Frankly, I think we've simply been very, very lucky so far.
You have a point. It's always good to get it on the first go, but no harm in a few missteps so long as you try again.
[ Ah there it is. Cole taking things fairly literally again. It's sweetly innocent and probably the major reason why he's endeared to the boy so much. He chuckles a little shaking his head. ]
I'm making a joke, Cole. Granted, I'm not as good as Varric. Perhaps, I should leave that to him.
[Jokes. Right, yes, of course. Cole nods to himself slightly, as if committing the joke to memory. Which... he is, actually. Because if he can't get them instantly, maybe he can just... memorize every joke? That could work, right?]
But he's not awake yet. So I think you should probably keep going. [...] ...Oh, no, was that another one?
He keeps his head as far away from the maw of the creature as possible but it inches closer and closer with each bite. He's about ready to say goodbye to half his face when the weight is suddenly lifted from his chest. He sits up immediately as Reinhardt throws it away and Sen finally lets out a few loud coughs trying to breathe air back into his lungs.
Finally, Sen stands back up and steps behind Reinhardt now with his staff at the ready. It seemed Reinhardt had that spirit of his back now. He raises a hand and places it on the man's back and casts his spell to enshroud Reinhardt in a protective barrier. This way, if Reinhardt planned to fight this thing with just his fists the barrier would keep the thing from tearing the man's arm off.
Sen says one thing though before Reinhardt goes on the attack "Show this thing who's the real strong one here."
Reinhardt hears the sounds of Sen's struggling breath. He plants himself before the elf. He's not letting that monster have another taste. Even if it costs Reinhardt his life, he's not going to lose. Not one more person. Not one! "Don't worry about me. You do something about that arm! I won't let it get past me." He had felt that small hand on his back and he's not really know how to handle being touched with magic, but he'll accept it.
"Now just you. Take care of you. If you bleed out out here, I'll never forgive you." He doesn't really mean that. He's forgiven everyone who's ever wronged him. He would forgive Sen too, because that's all he could do. "You hear me, Sen. You heal yourself. I've got this."
It's not going to be pretty. He doesn't have his weapons. He doesn't have his armor. He has himself and he has someone he would die to protect. That's all he needs. He's just going to charge the beast, try to use his sheer size and strength against it. He's going to need whatever protection that magic offers him because he's going to break the thing with his hands.
[ He wonders for a moment. Should he ask? He's heard differing things about circles. How some were kind and good while others were like the Spire, cruel and torturous. There's a pause as he works but her question shakes the thoughts from his mind. He best focus on her question for the time being.
However, he gives her a bit of a small smile, as if a teacher to a student. If Solas had heard that question he wonders how mad they might have gotten.]
Well, no. To label the Fade or the Beyond as a realm of demons is a little to simplistic. To be more accurate, it's the realm of thought. Of dreams. Every person in Thedas travels there when they sleep but only mages like myself can remember our time there. It's also where mages draw magic from.
But, to answer the first question the Fade is the home of Spirits and demons.
[ Continued from here ] [ Ah he should've expected this question. It still baffled him. The mark still had that same feeling like it could but also couldn't It was difficult to really put it into words. Unfortunately he gives a small shrug of his shoulders. ]
I think it's because the veil isn't here. It's gone and I think so is the Fade. The curious thing though is my magic still works.
[ He sighs just a little rubbing the bridge of his nose. ]
The Fade is never gone. Not as long as mortals still dream. [And as long as Justice is here. He doesn't know what would happen to him if the Fade was destroyed, but he's not sure he would even survive. He doesn't think there would be any magic left in the world, either. He can't imagine a world without the Fade's influence.]
Further away, perhaps, but not gone. I hear it sing in your hand.
But, Sen does not let the height difference stop him from helping with the carrying if it is difficult. They hobble their way to the clinic and once inside he goes to the nearest unoccupied bed and sets Rhys down to sit on it. ]
I'll be back with a doctor. Just lie down and try not to think of food.
[ He's standing back up to leave. To find exactly the person or tonic they need. ]
[ He's careful with his lead, being careful not to step on the young woman's feet as they revolve slowly around the dance floor. He cants his head to her when her voice trails away. His first thought is she must have been concerned or deeply affected by what had happened. It was only natural after all. They all had lost so much and another tragedy like the sickness definitely did not help with that.
But, his thoughts are taken from that when she had spoke of how she was cured. ]
I'm glad to hear it, but I should apologize, Princess. I should have checked earlier with you to see you had been given it, but I suppose those thoughts escaped me with all the goings on.
[ He gives her a gentle twirl, spinning her away from him as he holds onto her hand before he brings her back in, softly. Her question earns a smile with a small shake of his head. ]
No, I was careful to keep myself in good health. After all, I can't very well catch the culprits if I'm bedridden.
[ At least he isn't offended by the lack of manners. He just assumes she's more to the point. No real problem.
Their dance is slow, but not romantic. This was more a platonic like waltz they were doing. A certain amount of space between their bodies as to not actually come in contact except for what was needed.
The remark to his tattoos though earns a genuine smile from him. ]
Good interesting or bad interesting? Because if bad I'd hate to bore you with the details.
[ There's a joking tone to his voice, a part of him hoping she's not about to outright insult him to the just he makes.]
[ There's a curious look he gives her because that definitely sounds more like a minstrel than bard. And to cast spells? He really needs to ask more about this Exandria.]
I never asked Keyleth but you all seem to have a healthy tolerance for magic. How do people in your world treat those with magic? [ Because he's beginning to wonder how different their worlds are. ]
[ He hasn't lost these kinds of battles yet and Isabela will not be his downfall to his winning streak. May the odds ever be in your favour, Isabela. ]
Orlais does love it's murder at their parties or at least potential murder. It's almost a bit exasperating if you ask me. They really do try too hard with their grand Game.
[ The Duchess being amongst those people. She really did play the game quite awfully, especially against a beginner. However, there's a grin that crosses his face when he hears about nabbing cakes. Oh, Sera would love this woman. ]
Well, why don't we? Nothing's stopping us other than the disdainful looks and well, who cares for those?
[Oh Sen, Isabela always plays to win. But to the winner goes the spoils, and she's hoping people are feeling their drinks a little too strong as time goes on.]
Oh I know. Before I ever stepped foot in Orlais I thought I knew a thing or two about talking in circles and being purposefully obtuse, but I honestly believe they've written the book on it.
[Although that had made it easier to sneak in and steal the tome when she'd had to get it, so maybe their Game wasn't entirely awful. When that many people are so full of themselves they're blind to everything else.]
I don't even bat an eye to any judging eyes I see directed at me anymore. Why would I when there's delicious sweets that probably cost an arm and a leg a piece? [Of course there's other reasons for people to judge her but she doesn't care about any of that. She laughs instead, glad to have him on the same page of thought.] I think the bigger problem lies in possibly eating too many of them. Especially those delicate chocolate cakes, which I know won't last for long.
[ There's a slow blink as he's still not sure what they mean before it finally clicks. There's a smile that crosses his face as the realization comes to him. ]
Ahhh, so you're Ryuji. I think it looks quite nice though this is the first time I'm seeing you.
[ He gets off from leaning on the railing before he steps towards the young man. Standing only a few inches shorter than the young man, Sen offers out a hand to them. ]
[Ryuji grins back despite himself, then settles on his heels, slouching easily with hands in his pockets until Sen holds his hand out. Right, he remembers this from his brief time overseas.
He grabs Sen's hand and gives it a vigorous shake.]
And thanks. It's nice to be back t' normal for a shindig like this. Nothin' worse than lookin' like a slob at a fancy party, right?
[ YOU FLATTERER...and Prompto is a sucker for compliments, his cheeks tinged pink as he laughs again. Lavellan's probably just saying that to make him feel better about the whole falling-off-a-pillar thing, but hey, he'll take it. ]
Believe it or not, I kiiinda managed that without a flower in my hair. [ SOMEHOW. He still doesn't understand how he got so lucky as to find someone to love here, but here he is, regardless. ]
Maybe this'll earn me an extra kiss or two, though.
Really? I never would've expected you to never not wear a hat.
[ There's a momentary thought of why Cole never wore a hat back in the day but then it comes to mind; he very much doubted the Spire would ever allow for anything as such.
Which begs other questions, but maybe for later. Not when he's looking ridiculous. ]
Well, we'll be sure to get you loads more hats to make up for the lack of them in your past.
[ There's a smile to his face as she watches her beam. From the few times they talked she didn't seem like a very happy girl. Maybe a function like this was at least giving her some semblance of cheer. So he nods to her and replies; ]
Indeed. Hopefully you've gotten the chance to show it off to others. I'm sure plenty of people would be absolutely jealous.

So the Fade is the source of magic? Parallel to your world but separate from it? It sounds similar to what we know as leylines.
