[ Even here, on a new world, the Conclave's shadow can cast a pall over matters, and Vex's flat look twists into a grimace. It is a simple enough question, innocently asked. She has no reason not to explain, beyond her general dislike for the subjects at hand. ]
Certain colours have affinities for different elements, but I'm uncertain how much else is alike. We have both dragons of the chromatic and the metallic variety, and I assure you, the former are the truly evil ones. No victory is ever assured against a dragon, and we've come close to death against them more times than I'd like to think.
[for a moment, the sight of Allura's tower crumbling, of the green dragon's maw spilling forth poisons that slew hundreds in moments. Of the damage done by the black dragon in more territory than one. Sen, behind her, can likely feel the shudder run through her frame]
We've tried to become powerful. Frankly, I think we've simply been very, very lucky so far.
[ He listens to her silently. The tone in her voice and the details of the expression definitely give him the idea that this was uncomfortable subject for her. He wouldn't stop her though because honestly this would be good to know for the future. After all, who knows if these dragons might show up here. The distinction would be imperative.
The shudder gives him a sign that maybe he shouldn't push it any further, but even as they fly he removes a hand from her side and places it on her shoulder. A small squeeze for reassurance. ]
Luck may have a small part of it but it's also being clever and smart. It seems you all have that in spades.
But, if any evil dragons show up you'll have one mage at your back.
[ It’s an unpleasant subject and a story that, as far as Vex’s memories are concerned, are an incomplete picture. Oh her brother has said they fought the Chroma Conclave and won, but there’ll forever be that element of ‘what if’ uncertainty. ]
[there’s a low chuckle] you’re not wrong there, really. Some of Vox Machina are incredibly clever..though that seems to only apply right up until combat begins. [headshake] Even when a plan rarely survives engagement with the enemy we find ways to make it into an almost disaster.
Let’s just hope they don’t eeeeever show up. I’d hate to imagine them making “friends” with Wyver. But I’d never say no to another spellcaster at my back.
[ He can't help but think how true that that must be. Plans when encountering enemies rarely tended to go well. It brings back the memory of Haven and he cant help but bow his head just a bit. ]
Any battle you can walk away from would hardly be called a disaster...but I see your point. They're dangerous creatures all the same.
[ There's a look he gives here that is a mix of curiosity. ]
Wouldn't Wyver just end up taming them like the others? Still, it would be fairly bad if they had full sized dragons in their army. Hopefully a few good arrows could take them down. [ He says with just a small wink of his own.
But, ah, the question of dragons. He makes a small thoughtful noise, trying to figure out how best to describe them. ]
They're like wild animals, but destructive in nature. Fire, ice or lightning for breath. They'll just about attack anything if they see you as a threat or encroach in on their territory. However, like any animal they can be avoided...for the most part.

...what are dragons like where you’re from?
